                         Bio

My husband and I were both born and raised here in San Diego. I graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, which led me to teach high school Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, and Anatomy in the San Diego School District. I saw back then what many are seeing now, a broken public education system in which I felt called to no longer be a part of. I left teaching and got my second Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. I jumped straight into trauma/surgical critical care in a large local hospital, serving the population of San Diego County for the past 15 years. My love for education did not stop there, as I became an Advance Clinician in charge of creating and implementing new and on-going education for our critical care staff. A few years ago, we began our journey of homeschooling our three children and feel incredibly blessed by the homeschool community here in Encinitas. I have felt a strong pull to leave healthcare and go back to my teaching roots where I can continue with my passion of helping kids discover a love of science.

We will cover both lecture and lab requirements for high school level chemistry, covering the composition of matter and the changes it undergoes.

Course Objective:

This course in chemistry will be designed to encourage critical thinking, problem solving, application of chemical principles, and the development of laboratory skills. They will connect chemistry to the world around them with the goal of applying it in their personal lives. Students will be able to apply their learning in making their own personal decisions, engaging in public conversation and debates concerning scientific matters, and potentially applying it in a professional matter in future careers.

Schedule:

Semester 1
